The common limits deserve attention before the differences

Both selected models provide 24 gigabit PoE+ access ports and four gigabit SFP uplinks. Their standard published PoE budgets are also 370W. Choosing between them does not, by itself, solve a requirement for multigigabit copper or a 10G uplink.

That shared boundary is useful because it prevents the comparison from drifting into the capabilities of other family members. A site with a genuine faster-uplink requirement should change the compared configurations before negotiating prices. Selecting the more familiar brand within this pair would still leave the same physical speed requirement unmet.

Aggregation does not make either chassis a 10G-uplink switch

Multiple uplink members can distribute independent flows through a compatible aggregation design. A single flow ordinarily remains assigned to one member, so four gigabit sockets should not be described as one equivalent 4G path for every transfer.

The distinction matters in an office that performs a few large transfers as well as many ordinary user sessions. A bundle may spread the smaller sessions effectively while the large transfer continues to encounter a gigabit ceiling. Cartennas would assess the shape of traffic leaving the closet on both candidates using the same assumptions. The brand comparison should not hide a common capacity mismatch.

Cisco’s service and stack model can justify the additional architecture

The C9200L provides two power-supply slots and optional dedicated StackWise-80 connections for compatible members. Its fans are fixed. The CX 6000’s case is a more modest AOS-CX access role with static routing and local or optional centralized management.

The useful decision is whether the office will benefit from the Cisco operating arrangement. A maintained stack can consolidate administration and fit an existing campus standard, but it also requires compatible software, stack hardware and a replacement procedure. A small standalone access installation may place greater value on a configuration the local team can manage simply. Neither choice should be described as universally less work without considering that context.

Power and management comparisons need consistent assumptions

An illustrative 300W allocation leaves 70W of either starting PoE budget. On the Cisco, a second supply changes the available configuration, but capacity and failure reserve must still be treated separately. Comparing a redundantly equipped Cisco with a minimum Aruba configuration would answer a different question from comparing their basic access functions.

Operator discussions add a similar caution about management. C9200 stack reports have highlighted software-state alignment, while CX administrators have described learning differences from earlier Aruba switch commands. Those are practical transition issues, not evidence that one of these exact models has a proven superior failure rate. The comparison should include the operating process the office will actually adopt.

Cartennas assessment

Choose the C9200L when its stack, supply and IOS XE operating model meet a requirement already present in the design. Choose R8N87B when its simpler access role and AOS-CX management fit the site. If upstream capacity is the concern, move the comparison to faster-uplink models; this pair shares the limitation.
