When a managed provider is underperforming, adding an employee can seem like the obvious answer. First identify whether the gap is availability, technical capability, accountability, or simply someone being physically present. Those problems may call for different solutions.

Separate the tasks from the responsibilities

Connecting a workstation, checking a damaged cable, and replacing a device are individual jobs. Deciding who can access company information, maintaining backups, and planning changes are continuing responsibilities. A person who visits for a few hours cannot silently inherit all of them.

Look at a real month of requests

Write down what happened, the time spent, and whether someone needed to be physically present. Include the work managers did while waiting for help. You may find a predictable group of onsite tasks—or enough daily work to justify a dedicated role. Either way, the decision will rest on evidence from your business.

Consider a combination

Your internal person or managed provider can retain ownership of everyday IT, with field technicians handling physical tasks at a location. Scheduled visits can also help with a queue of known jobs. Urgent incidents need a separate arrangement so employees do not wait for the next routine appointment.

Where Cartennas belongs

Our role here is onsite field support. We can help with agreed work at your business without requiring you to employ a field technician for every location. That service complements the people responsible for your broader IT environment; it does not automatically replace a managed help desk or an IT manager.
